It’s not even Thanksgiving, but we may have the best box score of the season courtesy of Grinnell College. The Pioneers dominated Emmaus to the tune of 164-107 (not a typo) and set a new NCAA record for made threes in a game with 42 (also, not a typo). Check out this beauty:
Grinnell hit 42 threes in a game breaking the laws of math and basketball
GRINNELL TOOK 88 THREES. IN A GAME. EIGHTY-EIGHT.

Grinnell College, a Division III team located in Grinnell, Iowa, is not new to this high-scoring nonsense. Last season, they averaged 111 points per game (but also gave up 101 points per game). Back in 2012, Grinnell’s Jack Taylor went 52-for-108 from the field as he scored 138 points IN A SINGLE GAME.
There’s a lot of great things about this box score, but here are my favorites:
- THEY TOOK 88 THREES. IN A GAME. EIGHTY-EIGHT.
- Taking 88 threes in a game is bonkers, but the fact they made 48% of them. That’s a really solid percentage.
- THEY TOOK 110 SHOTS. IN A GAME. ONE HUNDRED TEN.
- Sixteen players took threes in the game, lead by Ky-Sean Johnson. He went 11-for-16 and scored 33 points.
- Shoutout Jackson Breshears, Will Dubow, Christian Brookers, and Dawson Keller for not taking a three.
- Imagine being Emmaus and scoring 50 points in the first half and BEING DOWN BY 40 POINTS.
- Grinnell had to take a a three-pointer every 27.3 seconds and a field goal attempt every 12.1 seconds.
- Grinnell had 42 assists (and just 12 turnovers)!
- Emmaus turned the ball over 29 times, which I can only assume directly led to a three-pointer by Grinnell.
- Imagine scoring 107 points and losing by 57 points. That happened.
- lololol Grinnell scored 164 points.
