Lamont Smith, head coach of San Diego Toreros men’s basketball, was arrested on charges of domestic violence on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

He was arrested at Oakland International Airport after San Diego’s win over San Francisco.


An incident between Smith and a woman happened at the team hotel after San Diego’s win over San Francisco on Saturday. He was arrested at Oakland International Airport as the team was flying home. He was released on $115,000 bail.
The 42-year-old Smith is facing charges of domestic violence, assault with force likely to commit great bodily injury, and false imprisonment. The woman was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The Toreros are 18-12 this season, off to their best start since Smith took over the program ahead of the 2015-16 campaign. He also played at the school from 1995-1999.
The school issued the following statement:
USD released a statement to 10News, stating “We are aware of the report of allegations related to Lamont Smith. We have very few details at the time, but we will be gathering information and will be commencing an investigation into the matter.”
San Diego enters the West Coast conference tournament as the No. 6 seed against BYU on Saturday, March 3.
