The San Diego State Aztecs are back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years after winning the 2018 Mountain West Conference men’s basketball tournament, outlasting all comers at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Stakes

The regular-season conference champion Nevada earned the No. 1 overall seed after going 15-3 in conference play. Last season, the Wolf Pack beat Colorado State in the championship game to win the tournament, and went on to earn a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In the 2018 conference tournament, Boise State earned the No. 2 seed, but dropped their opener in the quarterfinals to Utah State.

Nevada’s bid for a second straight conference tournament crown was thwarted in the semifinals on Friday night, getting drubbed by San Diego State. The Aztecs wrapped things up in the championship game by beating No. 3 seed New Mexico.
