Marquette’s men’s basketball squared off with Creighton on Saturday, in a matchup of two Top-25 teams. Marquette entered the game with a 10-3 record, and ranked No. 10, while the Bluejays came in with a 9-3 record, and ranked No. 22 in the country.

In this Big East battle Marquette emerged victorious by a final score of 72-67, and they certainly have head coach Shaka Smart to thank.

Both for his coaching decisions, and his tremendous help defense.

Social media exploded on Saturday afternoon when during a Bluejays’ possession, Smart could be seen playing defense on the sideline.

Literally:

Look, that’s just coaching tape defense. Play quick with your feet, cut off the sideline, and force the defender back towards help. I mean sure, the fact that he’s a coach certainly is an added layer to the situation, but for you young basketball players out there, this is exactly the technique you want on the defensive end.
