Sorry, Tennessee: Damien Jacobs Flips To Florida Gators

Florida steals one from Tennessee.

What an awful day for the Tennessee Volunteers. First, JUCO cornerback and Tennessee commitment Otis Jacobs signed with Texas A&M instead of the Volunteers. Then, the Vols lost another huge commitment, in Damien Jacobs, who switched at the last minute and signed with the Florida Gators.

And both losses are to conference rivals, now that Texas A&M is in the SEC.

Damien Jacobs is a 6’4”, 300-pound defensive tackle. He originally signed with Florida State out of his Louisiana high school, but didn’t make it in, and enrolled at East Mississippi Junior College.

Jacobs blossomed into one of the better JUCO defensive tackles in the country during his time at EMCC. Florida State didn’t have room for another defensive tackle, and that put Jacobs back on the market. He committed to Tennessee in July, but openly flirted with other programs during the process. In addition to Gator fans, Mississippi State fans also believed they had a shot at Jacobs.

Jacobs’ skill set is similar to that of Leon Orr coming out of high school. He’s a big body, capable of creating havoc, but needs to be more consistent.

This is the 18th commitment for Florida, and their second four-star JUCO defensive tackle of the week.
