Taylor McNamara Commits To Oklahoma Sooners Over Ohio State, USC And Others

The Sooners grab one of the nation’s top tight ends.

Taylor McNamara, one of the top tight ends in the country, has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. McNamara stars for San Diego's Westview High School. He had been committed to Arizona, but opened up his recruitment when the Wildcats fired Mike Stoops. McNamara is arguably the top tight end in the country and is rated four stars by most services. The 19th commitment for the Sooners is certainly huge for the program.

Why did McNamara choose the Sooners? SB Nation’s Crimson and Cream Machine weighs in:

Oklahoma is just a day away from the 2011 college football season drawing to a close when they play Iowa in the Insight Bowl. After the clock hits zero in the fourth quarter Oklahoma will be without any tight ends going into the spring. Seniors James Hanna and Trent Ratterree will have played their final game, Austin Haywood left the team and Max Stevenson suffered a career ending injury. To say that the Sooners are thin at the tight end position would be a massive understatement.

Oklahoma also has commitments from two other tight ends, but they are of the in-line blocker mold, while the 6’5”, 240-pound McNamara is more of a receiving type.

McNamara also considered offers from Cal, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and USC.
