Evan Boehm Swung Back To Missouri By Family Values

Auburn was 14 hours away from home, which was too many for Evan Boehm’s liking.

Evan Boehm is arguably the top guard recruit in the country for the 2012 recruiting cycle. From Lee’s Summit West High School (Mo.), Boehm stands 6’3” and weighs in at a solid 300 pounds. He has the build of a college player right now. SB Nation caught up with Boehm recently to get his thoughts on the Under Armour All-America experience, his visit to Auburn, and his recommitment to Missouri.

SBN: How has the experience at the Under Armour All-America Game been for you?

Boehm: “Great. I love getting out here and competing against all these great players. And I’m improving as a player.”

SBN: What was it about Auburn that originally caused you to decommit from Missouri?

Boehm: “Auburn came to me right after Mizzou made the switch. I wanted to check it out. And I didn’t think it would be fair to Missouri if I checked it out while still being committed to them. So I decommitted from Missouri and went down to Auburn for my official. It was a lot of fun. Coach Grimes, Trooper Taylor, they all did a great job recruiting me.”

SBN: So you really enjoyed the Auburn experience. What ultimately spurred committing back to Missouri?

Boehm: “It was 14 hours away. With my dad being a high school coach and my brother being in high school, the only person who could come see me is my mom. I’m not about that.

And I was really drawn to the family atmosphere at Mizzou. That’s what I like to see. I’m a family guy, all about the family, my dad being my head coach and all. Mizzou had that family feel and I felt like I was already a part of the team. It felt good.”

SBN: You played all the positions on the line in high school. I know you’re slated to play guard for Missouri, but how do you think the varied experience will help you at the next level?

Boehm: “I think it will help a lot. Being able to learn the different steps and assignments. Coach Barrows [HS offensive line coach] has done a great job with me. I payed guard my freshman year. I’m a little rusty with that. But I feel good about it.”

SBN: What do you want to accomplish in your first year for the Tigers?

Boehm: “I want to get there and show them my best. And hopefully my best will be enough to win a starting job.”

Boehm is not an early enrollee, so Mizzou fans shouldn’t expect to see him until the summer. Something tells me they’re willing to wait for one of the better prospects they’ve signed from The Show Me State in years.
