Villanova Football Recruiting: National Signing Day 2012 Commitments, Needs & Targets

Following a season where head coach Andy Talley was forced to rely on youth to get the job done, he might well be tempted to go down that route again in 2012 judging by some of the talent he has coming in. Joining CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year Dillon Lucas in the linebacking corps next season could be incoming freshmen Corey Majors and Austin Calitro. Both are rated as 3-star prospects, a ranking that doesn’t appear too often when talking FCS recruiting. They’ll be joined by linebackers Cameron McCurry and TJ White as well, so Talley will have plenty of options to choose from when selecting his linebackers in ‘Nova’s 3-3-5 defensive scheme.
‘Nova also stacked up on the offensive line in this cycle, bringing in Jake Prus, Nico D’Angelo, Johnathan Green and Bradley Seaton to supplement a unit that was hurt by both injuries and inexperience a year ago. And like usual, Talley is adding to his offensive options in the backfield for his spread offense. Running backs Javon White and Aaron Wells will come in and compete for playing time. Athlete Tonah Kpassagnon is an athletic freak who at 6’7” 245 lbs (and sporting a 39” vertical leap) may not have a position yet, but will surely find his way on to the field at either defensive end or tight end.
Like most schools, Villanova wasn’t immune to de-commitments in this recruiting cycle. In September they lost Stacey Bedell, who had committed in July while DB Mark Clements has had issues meeting Villanova’s admissions requirements and looks unlikely to be at Villanova with the season opens.
Standing at just 12 bodies (though FCS teams are limited in scholarship numbers to FBS schools), this class is on the smaller side, but there’s no doubt that there are a couple of jewels for Villanova fans to be excited about in Majors and Calitro.
