Tyriq McCord Commits To Miami Hurricanes Over South Carolina Gamecocks

Miami landed Tyriq McCord with a late charge.

Tyriq McCord, an explosive defensive end and linebacker prospect, has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. He pulled the trigger during halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. McCord stars for Tampa's Jefferson High School, and holds more than 30 BCS offers, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, TCU and Southern Cal.

McCord stands 6’3” and weighs 220 pounds, yet runs like a safety. He’s also a standout contributor on special teams. Most services rate McCord as a four-star defender, and consider him one of the best 20 defensive ends or linebackers in the country.

McCord is best suited to play multiple techniques. He can play in a two-point stance on standard downs, and then put his hand down in a wide-nine technique (three-point stance) in situations calling for a greater pass rush. McCord’s explosiveness is a fit in any defense.

There is a question as to how much additional size McCord can add at the college level. He is narrow-hipped, and without the added muscle, questions as to his ability to play the run will persist. The Hurricanes must use him creatively to maximize his effectiveness and limit his weaknesses. Miami’s defense was decimated by graduation and the NFL draft, so McCord should play early.
