Visesio ‘Junior’ Salt Decommits From Florida, Commits To Utah

Florida’s loss is Utah’s huge gain on the defensive line.

Visesio 'Junior' Salt, one of the top JUCO defensive tackles in the country, has decommitted from the Florida Gators and committed to the Utah Utes. Salt, who stars for Walnut, Calif.'s Mt. San Antonio Community College, stands 6'3" and weighs in at 340 pounds. Salt had originally committed to the Gators on December 18th. H/t: Scout.com

It appears distance was a factor, per Gator Country’s Andrew Spivey:

“I have been away from home for four years now and it’s time I play my last two years here at home in front of my family.”

The services are split on Salt. Some see him as a four-star defensive tackle. Others believe he should play offensive guard. Colleges are equally split. Cal offered him as an offensive guard, while Miami, Utah and Florida offered for defensive tackle.

From AllBuffs.com:

Originally from Sandy, Utah, the mammoth lineman committed to UNLV out of high school in 2006, decided to go on a Mormon mission, changed his mind and wanted to go to Utah but couldn’t get a qualifying test score. He was a JUCO all-american for Mt. SAC last year as an OL, but he prefers defense and will play there this year (they had a logjam at the position in 2010).

Salt will have two years to play and will enroll early for spring ball.

This is a big get for the Utah Ttes, as Kyle Whittingham needs a nose guard for his defense to function at the highest possible level in the Pac 12.
