2014 Texas WR Armanti Foreman Commits To The Oklahoma Sooners

Bob Stoops and company are a little bit late to the party of regional powers in terms of 2014 commits, but they did add a dynamic Texas wide receiver to the fold on Monday.

Early recruiting is going strong all around the country, and nowhere stronger than in the state of Texas. The Oklahoma Sooners got in on the trend of early commitments by securing a pledge from 2014 Texas City (TX) wide receiver Armanti Foreman, arguably the state's top slot prospect in the class.

A 5-11, 175-pounder rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and near the back end of the top 50 in the state, Foreman has the raw talent worthy of a higher rating.

As surprising as the relatively low rating from 247Sports (Foreman is ranked 29th in the latest LSR), even more surprising was the lack of offers for Foreman prior to his pledge to the Sooners -- while schools like Texas, Alabama, LSU, and others were showing interest, none of them had pulled the trigger.

Wide receivers coach Jay Norvell visited Texas City during the Oklahoma bye week in the middle of September, extending an offer and establishing a relationship with Foreman that made an instant impression on the wide receiver prospect. Consistent contact in the last several weeks helped earn Norvell the commitment from Foreman

As a sophomore, Foreman teamed with his twin brother, D’onta, a 6-0, 200-pound running back prospect with a little more sturdy build than Armanti, to form a tandem defenses found difficult to stop, with the newest Sooner consistently creating separation downfield on vertical routes and picking up yards after the catch on screen, flashing some serious first-step explosiveness and lateral quickness in the process, as well as the stop-start ability to make defenders look foolish.

In other words, Foreman is a pretty ideal slot prospect and a threat to take jet sweeps, screens, go routes, post routes, and everything in between the distance every time.

For any commitment this early, the biggest question becomes the distance to Signing Day 2014, as the twins had talked about staying together in college as recently as early September, before Armanti received his Oklahoma offer.

Schools interested in getting a shot at Armanti might want to take a look at look at offering D’onta.

And how likely are they to end up together in college? Well, this isn't the average package deal, and the Oregon Ducks did just land twins Tyrell and Tyree Robinson in the 2013 class, too.
