Following a summer that saw 2013 Plano Prestonwood Christian linebacker Mike Mitchell put up insane testing numbers at The Opening, the 6-4, 225-pounder has translated that athleticism to the football field, racking up 93 tackles, six sacks, 22 tackles for loss, and nine forced fumbles already. Not to mention a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Six Schools Standing Out For Mike Mitchell
Not bad for five games.
Mitchell is also a recent addition to the 2013 US Army All-American game.
As for recruiting, his father told Rivals that his son is still considering six schools ($) -- Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida State, TCU, and Teas A&M. The family has not yet been able to take any visits during the football season, so Mitchell is unlikely to make a decision during that timeframe. Instead, he will probably wait until after the season to take official visits that are as of yet unscheduled.
During the summer, around the time of The Opening, there were rumors that Mitchell was close to committing to Ohio State after growing up a fan of Urban Meyer. It didn’t happen, and it appears that Mitchell is still wide open in the recruiting process, though, as is the case with a growing number of prospects, he isn’t a fan of interviews and rarely makes public statements.
At this point, it looks like Mitchell may take his decision all the way to Signing Day, though it’s possible he could make an announcement at the US Army game.
