The Texas A&M Aggies already have two safeties committed in their 29-man 2013 recruiting class, but recently decided that they needed to add another, extending an offer to West Mesquite (TX) safety Kameron Miles on Monday night.
2013 Tennessee commit Kameron Miles now considering Texas A&M
An offer from a school close to home has changed things in the recruitment of a top Texas safety.

A consensus four-star prospect who has been committed to the Tennessee Volunteers since late May, the 6-2, 195-pound Miles spoke to GigEm247 about his interest level in the Aggies ($) following the offer:
In the beginning, I thought Texas A&M had offered, but when they didn’t I kind of left them alone. I’m really considering them right now though.
Pretty strong and candid words for a committed player.
The Amy All-American continued:
I have a lot of interest in them. I like how they’re playing right now. I’ve been watching a lot of their games and they’re competing. I’m very interested in them right now. Coach Yates was telling me the guys they have are good but are not physical in nature. He thinks I can be that guy.
Miles said the Aggies offered because they want a strong safety capable in coverage and those traits certainly fit the hard-hitting Miles, who is one of the best strikes in the state of Texas, regardless of class. And though he doesn’t test particularly well in the 40, he moves well enough in pads to project as a player who could have some utility in college in coverage, though there are some who believe he could become a linebacker/safety hybrid type of player.
However, the discussion of his skills gets away from the status of his commitment to Tennessee. With rumors swirling regarding the future of embattled head coach Derek Dooley, staff changes for the Volunteers could impact whether Miles signs with Tennessee:
If something goes down with the coaching staff then I’ll have to open up my recruitment and explore all my options. It all depends on who stays and who leaves if something goes down over there.
Dooley’s squad is currently sitting at 4-5 overall, with zero wins in five chances in conference play. If there is good news for Dooley and his future, it’s that the final three games are against Missouri, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. Would three wins be enough to save his job?
It’s questionable, but the big buyouts for Dooley and his staff could help him keep his job, as it could cost the school nearly $10 million to start over.
The A&M staff is trying to get Miles in for a visit, which could happen after the season. If Dooley is gone by that point, the Aggies would seem to have a strong shot to add a third safety to the 2013 class.
