2013 LA DE Tim Williams waiting for season to end to take official visits

Despite attending high school on LSU’s campus, the state’s top prospect has said that an out-of-state school is his leader.

Some prospects defy measurables with their play in pads. Some prospects wow in workouts. Consider 2013 Baton Rouge (LA) University Lab defensive Tim Williams a prospect who excels in both regards.

As a junior, the 6-3, 230-pounder registered more than 100 tackles and 16 sacks on the field. Off the field, he can run a 4.6 40-yard dash and post a vertical of close to 40 inches.

Evaluated as a consensus four-star prospect by the services and ranked 36th in the country by 247Sports and Rivals, Williams is still open in the recruiting process, as he has yet to take an official visit this fall, preferring instead to focus on his senior season.

Between the end of his playing days at University Lab and the Under Armour All-American game in early January, at which Williams plans to announce his decision, the weakside defensive end will take those official visits to LSU, Alabama, Miami, Florida, and Florida State.

Williams has already spent plenty of time on the LSU campus this fall -- other than attending class, that is, as he has taken in many of the Tiger home games.

However, it’s not clear that LSU is his leader, even though 247Sports lists them as “warmer” ahead of the rest, only ranked as “warm.” After all, back in the middle of October, Williams said that it was the Hurricanes in front ($).

He went on to explain why:

Everybody after Miami is pretty even. Miami’s been recruiting me harder than other schools. They call me all the time and send me a lot of stuff. I don’t even know where I want to go at this point because so many schools are coming at me. I have to look around.

Beyond attending a high school on the LSU campus, Williams has further connections to the program because he plays with the sons of head coach Les Miles and quarterbacks coach Steve Kragthorpe.

Williams said he can see himself playing at LSU:

I just go there and feel like I’m at home. The home games are loud because it’s Death Valley. I just like to have the experience of going to a college game because I’m new to this.

It’s the lack of perspective on other schools and other states and other places that is likely fueling Williams’ desire to step outside the borders of Louisiana before ending his recruitment.

And with so many visits left to take, there are bound to be some twists and turns left in his recruitment.
