2013 RB Adam Taylor, two JUCO defensive tackles will watch Nebraska-Penn State

The Cornhuskers will host three important visitors on Saturday as they seek to close out the 2013 class with a bang.

With the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Penn State Nittany Lions both sitting at 4-1 in conference play, the game in Lincoln Saturday has Big 10 title implications.

It’s also going to be an important visit weekend for the ‘Huskers, as head coach Bo Pelini and his staff will be working as well to woo three targets in the 2013 class -- Katy (TX) running back Adam Taylor, Northeast Mississippi CC defensive tackle Lavon Hooks, and Trinity Valley CC defensive tackle Quincy Russell.

For the 6-1, 210-pound Taylor, the recruiting process probably hasn’t gone as he thought it would entering his junior season, which was quickly derailed by an ACL injury in the first game. A bruising, downhill back who looks the part in or out of pads, Taylor had to wait until the spring to see interest start picking up, then tried to pledge to LSU, only to find out that he did not have a committable offer.

Right now, it looks like the ‘Huskers are showing the most serious interest ($):

Nebraska is recruiting me pretty hard right now. They’re probably recruiting me the hardest. Florida State is too and I have quite a few other ones also.

Though Nebraska is the only official visit that Taylor has planned, he would like to make his decision in December.

He represents an important target for the Cornhuskers because running back is a need in the class and there are no players currently committed at that position among the 14 members of the 2013 class.

The other two targets may just be as important, if not more so. Following the decommitment of Lincoln (NE) Southwest defensive tackle Christian Lacouture nearly two weeks ago, Nebraska doesn’t have any recruits committed at that position either, and both of the JUCO targets could make early contributions.

Hooks is a 6-4, 295-pounder who has official visits planned to Miami and Arizona State in the near future, with Ole Miss also under consideration. 247Sports has Hooks ranked as one of the top junior college defensive tackles in the country and one of the 15 best players nationally from those ranks.

A consensus four-star prospect, the 6-3, 305-pound Russell committed to Texas out of Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, but had issues qualifying and is now on the market again coming out of Trinity.

It appears that Nebraska will be his first official visit this fall. The athletic interior lineman took a trip to Lincoln way back in the spring of 2010, so he has some familiarity with the program.

Russell is also considering visiting Oklahoma and took an unofficial visit to Texas Tech earlier this fall.
