Jack Del Rio’s son commits to Alabama as a walk-on

Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio’s son Luke is headed to Alabama to try his luck with the Crimson Tide, scholarship be damned.

US PRESSWIRE

Luke Del Rio, the son of former Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach and NFL linebacker Jack Del Rio, is headed to Alabama in hopes of making the Crimson Tide football team as a walk-on quarterback, according to al.com.

Del Rio comes out of Colorado with a good amount of fanfare, ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the state. Despite having scholarship offers from two Pac-12 schools including UCLA and Oregon State, Del Rio decided he wanted to play without a free ride for the best program in the country.

It’s an interesting move by Del Rio, who recently decommitted from Oklahoma State. The Cowboys program shuffled its coaching staff, prompting Del Rio to decommit and look for other opportunities.

Del Rio had a tremendous senior season in high school, leading his team to the state championship by throwing 28 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

The Colorado native will have plenty of competition at Alabama, with Patrick McLeod and Cooper Bateman also coming into the team as scholarship freshman passers.
