Kermit Whitfield Decommits From Miami In The Third Person

Kermit Whitfield, a speedster from Orlando (Fla.) Jones High School, has decommitted from Miami according to the Orlando Sentinel. Whitfield had originally committed to the Hurricanes in May of 2011. He is a friend of Florida State 2012 commitment Marvin Bracy, who is also an elite sprinter. Whitfield is considered a good, but not elite football recruit, because of his size (5’9, 165). But it’s his interview skills that land him in this commentary.

“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever made ... wherever I go, though, Miami will still be my school,” he said. “Sometimes you just gotta face reality and open up your options.”

“I want all my offers to come in, and then I’ll decide where I fit in,” Whitfield said. “I’d like to see FSU offer me. I’d like to see a lot of schools offer me.

“I’m too much of a great player to sit on one school. This is the hardest decision ever. I have to find what school is best for Kermit, best school for Lavonte.”

That’s right, Whitfield referred to himself in the third person using both his real name and nickname. Credit Whitfield and his advisors, however, for doing the right thing and decommitting instead of leading on a school to which he was not solidly committed. With 10 months to go until National Signing Day, this is going to be fun.
