Deon Johnson, a top receiver recruit, committed to Alabama Saturday afternoon during a visit to the Tide’s spring game, according to Al.com. Johnson is a consensus four-star recruit. He stars for Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School, and also claims offers from Auburn, Louisville, LSU and Mississippi State. Johnson would likely have more offers if not for some schools having concerns about his grades.

Johnson stands 6’1” and weighs in at 175 pounds. That’s good size, but what really makes Johnson a special recruit is his speed. Serious speed. Johnson is listed at various sites as running a 4.3 40-yard dash. While that is likely a bit fudged, there is no denying this receiver has wheels. SB Nation’s Derrell Warren had this to say about Johnson earlier Saturday:

"For those unfamiliar with Johnson, he reminds me of a taller Andre Debose (Florida commitment in the class of 2009). He is featured at receiver more than Debose was in high school, so he might not have as steep a learning curve as Debose has had at Florida."

Johnson is Alabama’s 11th commitment of the 2013 class, and the second receiver, joining Raheem Falkins.
