Tight End Travis Johnson Commits To Miami

The Miami Hurricanes will look to extend their legacy of excellent tight end play with the addition of Travis Johnson, a top tight end target out of Tampa Jesuit High School who committed to the Hurricanes Monday night. He recently participated in one of Miami's summer camps.

Johnson Tweeted:

Truly Blessed To Say I Have Committed To Play Football At The University Of Miami ! ‪#TheU‬ ‪#CanesLife‬

Long insisting that he would play receiver, Johnson continued to grow into his 6’4 frame, recently weighing in at 230 pounds. He is definitely a tight end prospect. Johnson also had major interest from Clemson, Michigan State, Missouri, USF, Vanderbilt and West Virginia. He is a consensus four-star recruit and one of the best 20 tight ends nationally.

In Johnson, Miami is getting a player who has natural receiving skills in the body of a tight end. He is not an explosive player, but is quite fluid and has caught the ball well when I have seen him in person.

With the commitment of Johnson, some believe that Miami has three tight end commitments. That is not the case, as Jeremy Kerr is coming in as a developmental offensive tackle. The Hurricanes now have eight commitments in the class of 2013.
