The so-called Dream Team 2013 is starting to lose some luster for the Texas Longhorns with the Thursday news that Lancaster defensive end Daeshon Hall has ended a long period of essentially being a soft commit by decommitting from Texas, news broken by ESPN's Max Olson and confirmed a short time later by Hookem.com.
DE Daeshon Hall Decommits From Texas
There’s not a lot of positive momentum on the recruiting trail right now after the Longhorns lost the second member of the 2013 recruiting class in a month.
The 6-6, 225-pound Hall has been in his native Seattle with his father playing AAU basketball and recently no-showed at the World Championships here in Austin, as he was supposed to play for Team USA, but reportedly suffered an ankle injury that kept him from attending.
A commit the day after the second Junior Day, Hall took a visit to Baylor for the Pro Day there back in March and then made a subsequent visit to Texas A&M a short time later. Neither visit had been cleared by the Texas coaching staff. In many such cases, Mack Brown has opted to part ways with prospects, but Hall managed to keep his spot in the Longhorn class, even as it appeared increasingly likely that he wasn't going to sign in February.
Hall told Hookem.com that he's considering moving back to Seattle ($) to be with his family. Texas is still in the mix, according to Hall, but he's also considering Notre Dame, Washington, Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M. The athletic defensive end and basketball player said that he wants to be closer to his family, but the only two schools really close to Seattle on his list are Washington (obviously, it's in Seattle) and Oregon.
The departure leaves the 'Horns in a precarious position at defensive end in the class. Hall was the only commit who was going to definitely play the position long term in Austin, even though Jake Raulerson is slated to start there and Naashon Hughes, who currently will be taking a grayshirt, could eventually grow into the position.
The only major target currently on the board is Torrodney Prevot, who recently weighed in at 200 pounds at the Rivals Challenge and may never reach an ideal weight to even play weakside defensive end. There is a JUCO target on the radar, Trinity Valley CC's Kewan Alfred, who would probably commit on the spot to Texas if offered and is a solid prospect. The odd thing about Alfred is that the story goes that he was seen by Major Applewhite at his old Beaumont high school, even though Quincy Russell plays for the same junior college team.
As for Hall, until he decides whether or not he’s going to move back to Seattle, it’s difficult to even begin speculating about which school on his list could end up securing the second commitment of Daeshon Hall.
