Dante Phillips was denied admission by the Florida Gators early in July, making him the only player in coach Will Muschamp's first full recruiting class to fail to academically qualify. But the Gators will still see him in the next few years: Phillips has committed to join the Tennessee Volunteers and will be eligible to play, according to Knoxville, Tenn., radio host Josh Ward.
Dante Phillips Commits To Tennessee After Being Denied Admission By Florida
Dante Phillips’ long, strange trip to the SEC is over: He’s committed to Tennessee after being denied admission by Florida.

Phillips was listed at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds, but told Ward he weighs 330 pounds, and was rated a four-star defensive tackle by Rivals. He was part of a highly touted group of defensive line recruits at Florida that could have given Muschamp’s front seven an infusion of size and talent, but despite an appeal, Phillips was not admitted to UF, leaving him to reopen his recruitment.
Phillips looked into the Miami Hurricanes before settling on Tennessee. Picking up Phillips is a nice get for Tennessee coach Derek Dooley, who also signed defensive tackles Daniel McCullers, a junior college prospect, and Danny O'Brien in the Vols' 2012 recruiting class.
