2014 LB Somari Wright Favoring Texas, Baylor Early

Few players in Texas were more productive last season in terms of racking up tackles than 2014 Cameron Yoe linebacker Somari Wright, and he continued his run of stellar play late last week in College Station at the Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 Texas State Championship.

Unfortunately for the 6-1, 205-pounder who projects as an outside linebacker at the next level, Wright was not able to make any college camps over the summer due to transportation issues, one likely reason why he is still waiting for his first offer. He did make stops at a combine in Temple and a Todd Dodge camp.

Two of the schools he had wanted to make camp stops at were Texas and Baylor. The former is a longtime favorite of his, as he's friends with former Longhorn Billy Pittman, a Cameron Yoe alum himself who starred on the 2005 national championship team alongside Vince Young.

Like many young prospects, the recent success of Baylor has drawn his attention, and he plans on making a stop in Waco for a game this season if possible.

The story on linebackers in 7-on-7 play is that few stand out in the format since they can’t show off their tackling ability, but Wright did show flashes in action against Princeton, turning and running with a wide receiver down the seam and providing some evidence of his reported 35-inch vertical by elevating to haul in the pass.
