Davin Bellamy To Commit Saturday: Vanderbilt Or Florida State?

Saturday at Atlanta’s Chamblee Charter High School, defensive end Davin Bellamy will make his college decision. Bellamy is one of the better defensive end recruits in the Southeast. He is rated four stars by ESPN and Scout, and three stars by 247sports and Rivals.

Bellamy has good height at 6’5 and checks in at 225 pounds. There are some questions about his frame, as he is not incredibly long, but with a few years in an elite college football strength program, he should be able to reach 255 or more pounds of muscle.

Bellamy’s college choice has come down to two schools, both of which he has visited numerous times: Vanderbilt and Florida State.

Why might Bellamy commit to Vanderbilt or Florida State?

Vanderbilt obviously offers more academic prestige than Florida State. The commodores can also offer immediate playing time, given that their roster is not very talented. And they play in the SEC, which is a draw for many major recruits.

On the other hand, Bellamy would have to compete for early playing time in Tallahassee. He would be, at best, fourth on the depth chart as a true freshman. And that’s not a guarantee. The Seminoles, however, will have produced three top NFL draft choices at defensive end in the next two drafts, and defensive ends coach D.J. Elliot is a rising star in the business. And Florida State has the much better program and tradition than Vanderbilt.

Which school will he choose? Check back with SB Nation tomorrow at noon to find out!
