Levonte Whitfield Commits To Florida State Seminoles

Levonte Whitfield, a fast receiver recruit from Orlando (Fla.) Jones High School, committed to the Florida State Seminoles Monday. Whitfield, who also goes by "Kermit," had originally committed to the Miami Hurricanes in May 2011, before decommitting in March 2012. He is a friend of Florida State receiver Marvin Bracy, who is also an elite sprinter, and 2013 FSU receiver commitment Tony Stevens, also of Orlando. Whitfield is a three or four-star recruit, depending on the service.

Whitfield is considered a good but not elite football recruit, because of his size (5’9, 165 pounds). He does have excellent speed and did improve a good bit over the summer during the camp circuit, both at Nike’s The Opening and ESPN’s Gridiron Kings event.

Whitfield’s route running has improved, and he showed a willingness at Gridiron Kings to elevate and fight for passes. He also possesses good strength relative to his size, though that qualifier is important, as he isn’t likely to overpower anyone.

Whitfield should initially be used on kick returns and reverses, as he learns the finer points of the position.

The commitment brings Florida State’s commitment count to 18 for the class of 2013.
