Tennessee Football Recruiting: Derrick Henry, Derrick Green Visiting As Vols Host Gators

What a huge weekend Tennessee has planned on Rocky Top. Florida is coming to town. ESPN’s College Gameday will be there. It’s been a long time since the Volunteers have played a game of this magnitude.

So it makes sense that Tennessee would try to have top recruits visit when the 100,000+ are at their loudest.

And as Brad Shepard of Rocky Top reports, it looks like the Volunteers have succeeded, as top running back recruits Derrick Henry and Derrick Green will both be in Knoxville this weekend.

Henry, a former Georgia commitment, is still heavily considering the Dawgs, as well as Alabama. Out of Yulee (Fla.) High School, Henry is an enormous back at 6’4 and 240 pounds. There are real questions about his ability to play running back in college, as opposed to changing positions. The school that can best convince him that he will be able to stay at running back could have the best shot. And Tennessee has been firm in that stance. Getting Henry up for a visit, particularly on a weekend of this magnitude is a big deal.

There are no questions about Green’s ability to stay at running back in college. Out of the storied Richmond (Va.) Hermitage program, Green is a power runner at 6’0 and 218 pounds. He is also seriously considering Auburn and Michigan. Tennessee will have to roll out the red carpet to join those two programs. But Tennessee does have one thing on its side: distance. Knoxville is much closer to Richmond than is Auburn or Ann Arbor.
