Chevoski Collins Has Announcement Date, Finalists

It’s not easy to fly under the radar in Texas as a 2013 prospect, but a small-school prospect who does everything for his high school team has managed the feat.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Among the top uncommitted prospects in the state of Texas for the 2013 class, the recruitment of Livingston athlete Chevoski Collins has been the most mysterious.

Apparently not a fan of interviews or the coverage side of the recruiting process in general, Collins broke his silence this week after taking an official visit to Norman for the Oklahoma-Kansas State game last weekend.

On Thursday, he told ESPN that he has an announcement date set:

The decision is set for 11:15 am CST that day.

The final four isn’t that big of a surprise, as those were the schools that have been heavily in the mix for Collins, but the surprising omission is TCU. Why so surprising? Well, Collins told the Oklahoma Rivals affiliate earlier this week that TCU is in his final three ($), along with Oklahoma and Texas.

The guess here is that the decision is essentially between the Sooners and Longhorns based on that discrepancy, which could set up what is becoming a rare head-to-head battle between the two rivals. Since Bob Stoops began to reduce the emphasis on recruiting in the state of Texas in favor of a more national strategy, the Sooners haven’t been nearly the threat to the Longhorns in recruiting that they were only a few years ago.

According to multiple reports, Collins may visit Austin for the West Virginia game, which would give Texas the final say in his recruitment. Since he did not attend a summer camp, it’s been some time since the likely collegiate defensive back has made it onto the Texas campus.

Early in the process, it seemed as if Collins wanted to stay on the offensive side of the ball, but Oklahoma is recruiting him as a cornerback and Texas as a safety. Given that both teams are the only overlapping finalists in his separate comments, it seems as if the Livingston do-it-all star is now more open to playing defense.

Now he just has to solve the mystery of which school will receive his commitment, which is almost impossible to handicap with so little information available.

Stay tuned for a surprise on October 6th, then, ladies and gents.
