West Virginia has an important contest on the field this week as the Mountaineers welcome Baylor to open up Big XII play. But an equally important event will be taking place off the field in recruiting, as West Virginia is hosting several top targets.
West Virginia expecting top recruits Za’Darius Smith, others for Big XII opener
West Virginia opens Big XII play with Baylor, and it will look to impress several top recruits.

The headliner of the group is elite JUCO defensive end Za’Darius Smith, of East Mississippi Community College.
Smith is an impressive 6’6 and 250 pounds, with good quickness and surprising feel for the game given his relative inexperience (Smith played basketball until recently). Last week, he visited Florida State to take in the Seminoles’ win over the Clemson Tigers.
West Virginia could really use some help on the edge, and pass rushers are always at a premium in the wide open Big XII. Smith would be a big sign indeed.
Also in play for Smith is Mississippi State, which has had excellent success with JUCO recruits of late, and potentially Auburn, though the Tigers may not have space.
Arizona State defensive end commitment Dimarya Mixon, out of Mesquite (Texas) West High School is also expected on a visit.
