Doug Randolph, one of the top linebacker recruits in the country, committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish early Friday afternoon. Randolph stands 6'3, weighs 220 pounds and plays for Woodberry Forrest (Va.) High School.

How does Randolph fit into the Irish’s long-term plans? For that, turn to Irish blog One Foot Down:

He uses his hands extremely well to shed blockers at the prep level-something that will translate (although be much more difficult) in college. His highlight film showed him mainly playing with his hand on the ground with a definite preference to attack the ball. Since he is only listed at 220 lbs currently, he will have to put on 20-25 lbs to get to his college playing weight. As a natural pass rusher, he should be an excellent fit for DC Bob Diaco’s defense and should have a very productive career in South Bend.
