USC football recruiting: Max Browne, Su’a Cravens highlight strong Trojan class

Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans have had their struggles on the football field, but they are putting together one of the best recruiting classes in the country.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The USC Trojans are coming off a horrifying season which saw their national championship preseason projections result in a 7-6 season and a painful New Year's Eve in El Paso.

One thing that could take the sting out of the USC underachieving by Trojan fans is the incoming recruiting class. USC has picked up a top recruit at almost every position to try and make the most with their limited scholarships. The class isn't looking quite as strong as it did a few weeks ago. Several prominent Trojans like Kylie Fitts and Eddie Vanderdoes have decommitted and begun looking elsewhere. But it remains is a top-five recruiting class and figures to be filled with plenty of instant contributors for the Trojans.

Who are some of the top recruits joining USC?

Su’a Cravens: Cravens is perhaps the best recruit the Trojans signed up. He’s been considered a lockdown safety who can handle all aspects of the position and should be able to instantly contribute. He has already signed with the Trojans and will be available for spring practice.

Max Browne: Widely considered to be the top pro-style quarterback in the country. A long-time USC commit, he figures to compete along with Max Wittek and Cody Kessler for the starting spot and is an early-entree.

Kenny Bigelow: Another top 25 recruit, Bigelow is perhaps the best defensive tackle on the board, and figures to shore up a USC defense that struggled with run-heavy attacks.

Leon McQuay III: McQuay committed to the Trojans at the Under Armour game, and provides the Trojans with perhaps the best two safeties in the country.
