Washington football recruiting: Huskies aim to close strong

The Washington Huskies are putting together what figures to be a critical recruiting class for the Steve Sarkisian era.

USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Huskies did not have a great 2012 campaign on the field, as they finished a modest 7-6. But that isn't stopping them from compiling a pretty nice recruiting class together for 2013. Washington has had depth issues in the past, and the Huskies really need to find talent in a hurry to avoid dropping off too much in a competitive Pac-12.

Ace recruiter Tosh Lupoi appears to be making his mark for Washington, and the Huskies have been competing for some big names. Reuben Foster is visiting, Eddie Vanderdoes is seriously considering Washington after decommitting from USC and a host of recruits have already made their commitment. Let's take a look at some of the best current commits.

Troy Williams: One of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the country, Williams figures to be the natural successor to Keith Price at UW.

Demorea Stringfellow: An early commit from Washington, Stringfellow is one of the top wideouts on the West Coast and figures to be a natural No. 1 target for Williams, with Darrell Daniels a solid No. 2 option.

Joe Mathis: A recent commit at the Army game, Mathis is a dominant defensive lineman who can make an instant impact and become a disrupting frontline defender Washington has needed for awhile.

Elijah Qualls: Qualls is a freakish athlete who can play both fullback and defensive line, and he could do both at Washington to keep him on the filed as much as possible.
