UNC football recruiting: Tar Heels putting together top-20 class

Head coach Larry Fedora is thriving on the recruiting trail in his first year at North Carolina.

Liz Condo-US PRESSWIRE

The Larry Fedora era got off to a good start in Chapel Hill, as the North Carolina Tar Heels finished the 2012 season 8-4 overall, including a win over rival N.C. State. The Tar Heels were not eligible for postseason play thanks to NCAA sanctions, but the program's recent troubles haven't prevented Fedora and his staff from having success on the recruiting trail.

North Carolina currently has 19 commitments in its 2013 class, and that group is considered the 17th-best in the nation by Rivals.com. Here’s an overview of some of the Heels’ top prospects:

T.J. Logan: Logan is a running back out of Greensboro, NC, and he is considered the No. 69 prospect in the 2013 class by Rivals. Logan ran for more than 2,600 yards prior to the state championship game and piled up 39 rushing touchdowns. He is the third-ranked running back in the country.

Greg Webb: Webb, a defensive tackle from New Jersey, checks in at No. 143 in Rivals’ prospect rankings. He didn’t play very much during his senior season because of an injury. In 2011, he had 94 tackles and nine sacks.

James Summers: Summers is a dual-threat quarterback prospect from Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. He was originally an N.C. State commitment before flipping to the Tar Heels. He signed with North Carolina last year but failed to qualify academically, which landed him at Hargrave.

Brian Walker: Walker is a defensive back from Mallard Creek in Charlotte, NC. He turned down offers from the likes of South Carolina, West Virginia and Auburn in order to attend North Carolina.
