DT Dee Liner stays home at Alabama

    ESPNU

“I have nothing but good things to say about everyone I got to know during the recruiting process,” he said on ESPNU. “I want to compete for championships every year.”

Alabama became the leader soon after for Liner, with Miami also garnering interest. Georgia hosted the tackle on a visit the last weekend before signing day, but it was tough to draw the Alabamian away from his home state.

5-star DE Liner taking surprise visit to Georgia

    Bud Elliott, SB Nation Recruiting

It hasn’t been a well-kept secret that former-Auburn commit Dee Liner is likely to sign with Alabama, but with a surprise visit to Georgia, that might have become less of a sure thing.

Liner decommitted from Auburn after Gene Chizik was fired, and immediately eliminated the Tigers from his finalists. That didn’t leave many options. Although Miami was still hypothetically in the running, it seemed like the 6’2, 274-pound defensive end from Muscle Shoals, Alabama only had eyes for the Crimson Tide. But a report from Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution indicates that Liner reached out to the Bulldogs, and will visit the campus this weekend after meeting with Mark Richt.

Dee Liner to announce decision on Signing Day

    Bud Elliott - SB Nation

Defensive lineman Dee Liner will announce his college choice at 11 a.m. on National Signing Day, and the announcement will be shown nationally on ESPNU. The Muscle Shoals (Ala.) High School product is favored to sign on with Alabama, but Miami is still pursuing him.

The 6’2”, 277 lb defensive tackle committed to Auburn on June 11, 2012, but ended up de-committing on Jan. 14, and at that point named Alabama the new leader for his services. Liner was arrested twice in a short period this past July, but those appear to be for minor incidents.

The 6’2, 275-pound defensive tackle recruit out of Muscle Shoals (AL) High School had long been wavering in his commitment to Auburn. He was quite friendly with Alabama commitments at the Under Armour All-America Game, and many insiders believe the Tide actually held the lead in recent weeks despite his continued commitment to the Tigers.

While a bit undersized for defensive tackle, Liner has excellent length for being just 6’2. His quick first step and violent hands make him a prime candidate to be an effective multi-year starter in the SEC.
