Former USC commit Sebastian Larue visits Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies are back down to 32 members of the 2013 recruiting class after losing Orlando (Fla.) Evans wide receiver Tony Stevens over the weekend, which may help their case with Santa Monica (Calif.) wide receiver Sebastian Larue, who just took his official visit to College Station.

Formerly committed to USC, the Larue opened up his recruitment in early January. The official visit to Texas A&M was his first since that time, with a trip to Notre Dame pending next weekend and a decision to be made about his final visit, which will go down the weekend before Signing Day. Washington State and Ohio State received official visits in the fall, with the Cougars mentioned at times as a school that may have a shot to land the consensus four-star prospect.

A number of schools are in the mix for that final visit, including Arkansas, Miami, Oregon State, Texas, and Texas Tech.

Let’s check out how the visit went based on his Twitter feed:

And, of course, no recruiting trip is complete without the consumption of large amounts of food:

Hungry recruits aren’t exactly good for business.

Another tweet provides some insight into the psyche of a recruit on such a trip:

That probably includes a lot of his interactions with other prospects and players to keep his more private thoughts from ending up on the message boards and sparking a furor around his recruitment, a legitimate consideration for someone like Larue, which helps explain why his other public comments after his time in College Station were not especially revealing.

The best news for Texas A&M probably didn’t have anything to do with his trip this weekend. The Aggies already got him on campus once before, prior to the start of the 2012 football season, so he already has some level of familiarity with the program, instead of having to try to develop that comfort level with one single trip.

The other good news is the departure of Stevens, which further thins the ranks of wide receivers in the class. Even before heading to College Station, Larue knew that Cedar Hill (Texas) all-purpose offensive playmaker Laquvionte Gonzalez was the only slot receiver in the class, but the loss of Stevens would seem to only help A&M.

Now Larue just has to figure out where he’s going to take his final visit.
