The wild ride for 2013 Irving (Texas) offensive guard Rami Hammad since his stock exploded at the Semper Fi All-American Bowl in early January will come to an end on Wednesday around 5:00 pm CST, when Hammad will inform the college coaches and then the media of his decision.

The finalists for the 6-5, 320-pound prospect are Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, and TCU. However, it would appear that there is one school that has the best shot of landing Hammad and that school is Texas.

First some back story -- Hammad originally committed to Oklahoma State back in early June, about a week after receiving an offer from the Cowboys. The offensive line coach in Stillwater, Joe Wicklline, is considered one of the best in the business.

In November, Hammad took an unofficial visit to Baylor and then committed there 10 days later, to offensive line coach Randy Clements, who has put five offensive linemen in the NFL in the last four drafts and will add at least one more to that number come April.

Then Hammad went to the Semper Fi game in Los Angeles and was so dominant in practice one-on-ones that game officials told him that they didn’t want to release the film to protect the stock of the players Hammad dominated.

More than 15 offers followed in the days after the event.

Last weekend, Hammad was supposed to visit Okahoma, but cancelled that journey in favor of heading down to Austin to learn more about the Longhorns. When the Irving product left, he called the Baylor coaches and informed them that he was decommitting.

Hammad then set an announcement date of this Wednesday, in the process cancelling his planned trip to TCU.

In other words, of the four schools that he’s considering, he’s declined to take trips to two of them and decommitted from the other, leaving Texas as the most viable possibility.

If Hammad does commit to the Longhorns on Wednesday, as expected, he’ll join a strong offensive line class that already includes Under Armour All-American Darius James, US Army All-Americans Kent Perkins and Jake Raulerson, and the top JUCO offensive tackle by 247Sports, Desmond Harrison, who committed to the ‘Horns on Monday.
