At 5'10 and 180 pounds, Newby figures to be featured prominently in Nebraska's balanced offensive attack. Newby isn't as elite as many of the running backs on the board, but he possesses great acceleration and cutback ability.

Chaminade running back Terrell Newby picked the Nebraska Cornhuskers over the UCLA Bruins at a press conference at his school.


With regard to the various recruiting services, Rivals had Newby ranked as the 67th-best recruit overall, the eighth-best running back in this class, and seventh overall in the state of California. Scout ranked Newby the 17th-best running back in 2013. ESPN ranked Newby the 33rd-best running back and the 40th-best recruit in the state of California. 247Sports had Newby as the 23rd-best running back in the country and the 37th-best recruit in California.
He chose Nebraska over UCLA. Outside of his two finalists, Newby received offers from Washington, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Minnesota, Oregon State and Utah.
