Penn State football recruiting 2013: Nittany Lions making do with sanctions

Bill O’Brien has brought in 12 commitments in the class of 2014.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Penn State's 12-man class ranks 32nd in the nation in the 247sports composite team rankings. This puts them fifth in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan State. They have had no commitments since early July.

Chris Godwin is the star of the class. The wide receiver out of Middletown (Del.) High School is considered a four-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is rated as the 29th-best receiver in the country and the best player in the state.

DeAndre Thompkins as another top talent for the Nittany Lions. The wide receiver is from Swansboro (N.C.) High School and is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is considered the 34th-best receiver in the country and the 11th-best player in the state.

Michael O’Connor is another big get for Penn State. The quarterback is from the IMG Academy (Fla.) and is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is considered the 13th-best pro-style quarterback in the country and the 35th-best player in the state.

Top target

Penn State’s top target is probably Montae Nicholson, a versatile athlete from Monroeville (P.A.) Gateway High School. Nicholson is a four-star and can play corner, safety or receiver. He is a solid 6’3 and 195 pounds, and is also considering Pitt and Florida State, where he visited in early October.
