Washington State recruiting 2014: Cougars building modest class

Washington State’s recruiting efforts this year haven’t resulted in any commitments from blue-chip players.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Washington State’s recruiting class has 14 members at this point, and the group ranks 52nd nationally, according to the 247Sports composite, as well as sixth in the Pac-12. There isn’t any real headlining talent in the class, as the rankings imply, but the Cougars have built a solid foundation of three-star players.

Feaomoengalu Tapa, a three-star defensive end, is Washington State’s most recent verbal. Tapa committed on Oct. 23. The Cougars also added three-star tackle Sean Krepsz and three-star linebacker Chandler Leniu in September.

Here’s an overview of some of WSU’s top commitments:

Leniu became Washington State’s top-rated prospect when he verbaled on Sept. 26. The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco High School product is considered the No. 649 overall player in the 2014 class and the 27th-best inside linebacker in the nation.

Braden Eggert is a three-star offensive tackle from Napa (Calif.) High School. He is regarded as the 60th-best prospect at his position and the No. 673 overall player in the country.

Inglewood (Calif.) High School wide receiver Zaire Andre is also a three-star recruit, and he is the No. 690 overall prospect in the country, as well as the No. 91 receiver.

Washington State dipped into Florida to nab three-star running back Keith Harrington, who is from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg. He’s ranked as the No. 18 all-purpose back, the No. 109 player from Florida and the No. 774 overall prospect.

Stability coming

Washington State’s current recruiting class certainly is not impressive when compared to the rest of the Pac-12. But when one considers the state of the roster, even an average class presents an opportunity for an upgrade in talent and increased stability.
