Stanford football recruiting 2013: Cardinal top of the Pac

David Shaw is working magic on and off the field in Palo Alto.

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

In 2012, Stanford had the top recruiting class in the conference -- an unbelievable achievement for a program just years removed from a perennial spot at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings. Head coach David Shaw continues to work his magic for the Cardinal, as they have another great class coming in for 2014.

Stanford’s current 2014 haul ranks 18th in the nation, and its group of 16 pledges leads the Pac-12, just slightly ahead of second-place Arizona (and miles ahead of third-place Arizona State).

The Cardinal’s latest commitment is also one of their biggest -- Nifae Lealao. The defensive end from Capital Christian (Calif.) High School is rated a four-star by the 247sports composite. He is considered the sixth-best strong-side defensive end in the country and the ninth-best player in the state.

Keller Chryst is the star of Stanford’s class. The quarterback from Palo Alto (Calif.) High School is considered a five-star by the 247sports composite. He is rated as the third-best pro-style quarterback in the country and the fifth-best player in the state.

Christian McCaffrey is another top talent for the Cardinal. The running back from Valor Christian (Colo.) High School is rated as a four-star by the 247sports composite. He is considered the fourth-best all-purpose back in the nation and the second-best player in the state.

Joey Alfieri is a big part of Shaw’s haul. The outside linebacker from Jesuit (Ore.) High School is considered a four-star by the 247sports composite. He is rated as the 18th-best outside linebacker in the nation and the best player in the state.
