Oregon State recruiting 2013: Still at the bottom of the Pac-12, despite three new additions

Mike Riley got some much-needed secondary help this month, though.

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Though the Beavers have picked up 10 spots in the national recruiting rankings since last month, the 247Sports composite still rates their 2014 class at the bottom of the Pac-12. They are trending downward in one key metric -- after leading Colorado in average recruit score, Oregon State now trails the Buffaloes in that category, despite three new commitments in September. At 81.90, the Beavers are dead last in that category, as well.

The highest ranked of the three new commitments is Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan safety Adam Soesman, a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite, and a top-70 safety in this class. Soesman will not be the only recruit coming to Corvallis to provide secondary help -- in fact, he won’t even be the only safety. The Beavers added 6’1, 180-pound Bright Ugwoegbu from Katy (Tex.) Seven Lakes as their second safety of the 2014 class. Although he is a three-star as well, Ugwoegbu is less heralded than Soesman.

Rounding out the trio of new Beavers is 6’5, 240-pound offensive tackle Trent Moore out of Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton. Moore is a two-star recruit and rated as the 165th-best player at his position this class. He becomes the second lineman commitment for the Beavers, joining three-star guard Najee Toran, who is Oregon State’s highest-rated recruit so far.

Replenishing depth and adding talent to both lines have been the focus for Oregon State in the 2014 class -- five of their 12 recruits play in the trenches.
