With new head coach Steve Addazio taking over things at Boston College, the Eagles managed to drum up some momentum on the recruiting trail.
Boston College recruiting: Eagles working on top-40 class
A couple of highly-touted skill position players have Boston College primed to bring in one of their better classes in years.

Boston College is ranked 38th overall by 24/7Sports’ composite team rankings. That puts them right in the middle of the pack among ACC teams. While it’s highly unlikely they work their way into the top-20 to catch Miami (currently ranked fifth), Florida State (sixth), Clemson (14th) or North Carolina (17th), there’s no denying Addazio and the coaching staff will have some talent coming in to build around for years to come.
Things have slowed down a bit for the BC coaching staff in recent months as players shift their focus from recruiting to their high school seasons. The last prospect to commit was Sherman Alston, an all-purpose running back out of Montvale, New Jersey, on Aug. 22. Alston is rated as a two-star recruit by 24/7Sports and will likely need to add bulk in the weight room before seeing much playing time.
The top-rated commit for Boston College in 2014 is Thaddius Smith, a four-star athlete out of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Pennsylvania. He’s regarded as the 479th best player in his class and the 33rd-best athlete. Smith, who stands in at 5’9 and 170 pounds, projects to be a slot receiver at the next level and possesses the speed needed to be a playmaker down the field. He should fit in nicely with coach Addazio’s offensive scheme and could see early playing time next fall.
Smith isn’t the lone offensive prospect to get excited about. Three-star offensive tackle James Hendren comes in at 6’7 and nearly 300 pounds, making him one of the better linemen in the state of Massachusetts. Isaac Yiadom is another three-star prospect out of Massachusetts and is viewed by 24/7Sports as the 64th-best wide receiver in the 2014 class. Running back Richard Wilson out of Michigan has the size and strength at 6’0 and 210 pounds to pound the ball on the ground.
Defensively, there are a couple of noteworthy players committed as well. Three-star linebacker Connor Strachan is viewed as one of the better inside linebackers in the country and could play early in his career at BC. Harold Landry is another commit to keep an eye on; at 6’3 and 242 pounds, he has a high ceiling as a three-star defensive end prospect.
