Mississippi State football recruiting 2013: Recent commitments move Bulldogs up in rankings

MSU has struck gold early in October to move the Bulldogs into the top 30 nationally.

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

Mississippi State’s recruiting class for 2014 wasn’t doing too much in the rankings during the summer months. As temperatures started to cool and football season arrived, the Bulldogs started reeling in recruits left and right.

With the addition of a few three-star recruits, MSU’s 2014 class is up to No. 27 in the 247Sports composite team rankings. While that’s certainly a step in the right direction for coach Dan Mullen and his staff, it pales in comparison to the rest of the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Ole Miss and Auburn all have top-15 classes at the moment, and schools like Kentucky and Arkansas are gaining momentum by the day.

Jesse Jackson, a three-star wide receiver out of Petal, Miss., gave his pledge to the Bulldogs on Oct. 7. He is regarded as a fringe top-50 wideout nationally and has some size at 6’2 and 195 pounds. On Oct. 3, MSU secured two commitments from Will Coleman and Sean Rawlings. Coleman is a weakside defensive end out of Tyler Junior College in Texas, while Rawlings is a three-star linebacker from Madison, Miss.

Mississippi State has three guys regarded as four-star recruits: Aeris Williams, Jamoral Graham and Gerri Green. Williams is a physical running back at 6’1 and 205 pounds, and he’s rated by 247Sports as the ninth-best tailback in the country. Graham is an athlete who will likely play safety or wide receiver in college, and he received interest from just about every SEC school. Green is 6’5 and 230 pounds, and he’ll likely play linebacker in college.
