Texas A&M football recruiting 2014: Aggies continue stockpiling talent

Kevin Sumlin has the Texas A&M recruiting machine rolling.

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

In just its second year affiliated with the SEC, Texas A&M has already become one of the conference’s premier programs. The Aggies’ recruiting has been just as successful as the on-field results, and their 2014 class is shaping up to be one of the country’s best.

A&M currently has verbal pledges from 17 prospects, 12 of whom rate as four- or five-stars, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The Ags’ class currently ranks fourth in the nation and second in the SEC, trailing only Alabama. They’ve been hot in recent weeks, picking up commitments from four-star offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, four-star weakside defensive end Qualen Cunningham and five-star weakside defensive end Myles Garrett in October.

Garrett, out of Arlington (Texas) James Martin High, is the cream of the crop, rating as a five-star, per 247. Standing 6’4 and weighing 240 pounds, he’s ranked as the 16th-best player overall, the No. 2 player at his position and the No. 2 player from the state of Texas.

The Aggies’ other five-star prospect is pro-style quarterback Kyle Allen. Allen, out of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain High, is 6’2.5 and 185 pounds. He’s the No. 19 player in the nation, and the top prospect at his position and in his home state.

Outside linebacker Hoza Scott, out of La Porte (Texas) High, checks in at 6’2, 225-pounds. A four-star player, he rates as the No. 76 player in the nation, sixth-best OLB and No. 13 player from Texas.

Eluemunor, who flipped to A&M from Arkansas on Monday, is a four-star JUCO offensive tackle. From Lackawanna CC in Scranton, Pa., he has good size at 6’5, 300 pounds and is rated as the No. 7 JUCO prospect in the country (No. 3 at his position, No. 1 in his state).

Still to come -- Bud Elliott, National Recruiting Analyst

Texas A&M has a great class, but it would still like to add help at linebacker, offensive line and receiver.

Receiver Frank Iheanacho is a four-star out of Westside High School in Houston. A&M seems to be the overwhelming favorite to land him.

Edwin Freeman, of Arlington (Texas) Bowie High School, is a four-star linebacker against the Aggies will fight Texas.

And the Aggies are still looking for another JUCO offensive tackle. Fahn Cooper, of College of DuPage, in Illinois, seems to fit the bill. A&M will battle against Texas Tech for his commitment.
