Notre Dame has added a key piece to their 2014 recruiting class, as four star tight end Tyler Luatua has committed to the Irish, according to Tom Loy of 247sports.
4-star TE Tyler Luatua commits to Notre Dame over Alabama
Alabama actually missed out on a target!

Listed at 6’4” and 230 pounds, Luatua comes from La Mirada High School in California. The 247sports composite considers him a four star prospect, rating him as the third-best tight end in the class and the 14th-best player in the state. Luatua chose the Irish over Alabama and Ole Miss -- seemingly the first top target the Tide have missed all year long -- while he also held offers from Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas, among others.
Luatua is rated as the fifth-best prospect in Notre Dame’s class by the 247sports composite, behind offensive tackle Quenton Nelson, offensive tackle Alex Bars, wide receiver Justin Brent and cornerback Nick Watkins. He is the second tight end in the class for the Irish, joining three-star Illinois prospect Nic Weishar.
Notre Dame’s class ranks sixth in the country, according to the composite.
