5-star safety recruit Laurence ‘Hootie’ Jones commits to Alabama over LSU

Alabama lands their fourth five-star prospect of the class.

The rich just keep on getting richer.

Five-star 2014 safety Laurence “Hootie” Jones, the top Hootie in the class (and third-best safety), has committed to Alabama, strengthening what is the undisputed best recruiting class in the nation.

From Neville (La.) High School, Jones is the 30th-best player in the class and the sixth-best player in the state of Louisiana, according to the 247sports composite. He chose the Tide over an offer from in-state school LSU, and was also offered by Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, among others.

The Tide have had the top-rated class in the nation each of the past three years, and that will almost assuredly continue this season. With Jones’s addition, Alabama’s class score is now 306.37, better than any of their previous classes since the 247sports composite’s release, and far better than second-place Texas A&M (267.44).

Jones is the second safety commit for Alabama in the class, joining three-star Georgia prospect Chris Williams.
