Augustus Edwards drops Syracuse: NY’s top back down to FSU, Miami

Augustus Edwards was one of the prizes of Syracuse’s class, but the nation’s top-ranked fullback has decommited from the Orange and is considering Florida State and Miami.

One-time Syracuse commit Augustus Edwards is no longer considering the school, and will instead be choosing between Florida State and Miami.

The Staten Island native had committed to the Orange back in July, giving Syracuse one of the best prospects coming out of New York City this year. But when head coach Doug Marrone left for the NFL, Edwards began to ease out of Syracuse’s grip. First he visited Rutgers, then planned trips to Florida State and Miami. Then, Thursday night, Edwards confirmed that he had decommitted. Brian Dohn of Scout indicated that the two Florida schools were his top choices.

Edwards is a consensus three-star recruit whose ranking depends on what position he’s listed at. Scout considers him the No. 46 running back in the country, but Rivals considers the 6’1, 222-pound prospect a fullback -- in their opinion, the best in the country.

Syracuse still has Tyler Provo, a 6’3, 235-pound back ranked by Rivals as the No. 4 fullback in the nation, as a commit.
