Top QB Christian Hackenberg signs with Penn State football

The highly rated quarterback prospect from Virginia has been committed to the Nittany Lions for almost a year, and has signed on to play for Bill O’Brien in State College.

USA TODAY Sports

Five-star pro-style QB Christian Hackenberg has signed his letter of intent, and will be a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Hackenberg, who comes in at 6’4 and 210 pounds, is rated as the top pro-style quarterback in the 2013 recruiting class, and one of the top 25 prospects overall in the country.

Hackenberg had offers from Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Stanford, among others. He was a 2012 Nike Elite 11 finalist, and took part in the Under Armour All American game on Jan. 4.

The Fork Union Military Academy product committed to the Nittany Lions last February, and stuck with them following the announcement of heavy NCAA sanctions against the program. If he does not redshirt, Hackenberg, as well as the rest of the 2013 Penn State recruiting class, will be able to go to a bowl game as seniors. However, the gravity of those sanctions did not scare him and the rest of the class off.
