Ty Isaac signs with USC

Ty Isaac isn’t the only elite running back committed to the USC Trojans, but he’s the biggest -- and also considered to be the best.

The Joliet, Illi., native is a little bit larger than your average player at his position: he’s listed at 6’3, 215 pound, more befitting of a wide receiver, or perhaps a safety. No matter: Rivals has him as a five-star recruit, the fourth best running back in the country, while Scout and ESPN put him slightly lower, but still as one of the top 15 players at his position in the nation. SB Nation’s recruiting analyst Bud Elliott saw potential in the player’s size when writing up his commitment -- not to mention that it could make him a good fit with Lane Kiffin’s squad:

Isaac shows good vision and runs with power. For his size, he also possesses good speed. Isaac also catches the ball pretty well, and if he keeps growing, it would not be out of the question for him to play some h-back, as USC loves to throw the ball to its backs.

The bruising running back had a host of other offers from elite schools, such as Notre Dame, Michigan, and Ohio State, with the majority coming from the Midwest. He chose to go far from home, to the sun of Southern California. He’ll enter a backfield that already features Penn State transfer Silas Redd, along with fellow incoming freshman, four-star Justin Davis. Davis is also a bigger back at 6’1, and isn’t that much less highly thought of, as Rivals has him as the No. 9 running back in the country
