The Notre Dame Fighting Irish inked a big name on Wednesday when 2013 Prosper (Texas) wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. faxed in his letter of intent to the Irish.

The son of the star major league outfielder of the same name, Hunter unfortunately suffered a broken femur at a practice in preparation for the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl that ended his high school athletics career, which would have included baseball in the spring.

A consensus four-star prospect, Hunter was a standout at The Opening and is considered the No. 30 player in Texas by the 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 29 receiver nationally. The prospect sometimes known as THj held offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia, among others.

At 6’1 and 172 pounds, Hunter is not a prospect who will wow with his physique or his measurables -- his 40 time is listed in the high 4.5 range. What he does do is get open, as he did against some of the top prospects in the country in the championship game of the 7-on-7 tournament held at The Opening, making numerous big plays in the contest and throughout his time in Oregon.

Recruitment timeline: Hunter committed to Notre Dame in late September and remained firm with his pledge for the rest of the process.
