Isaiah Golden signs with Texas A&M

The big defensive tackle even played some running back during his high school years.

Brendan Maloney-US PRESSWIRE

The Texas A&M Aggies are fortifying their trenches to continue competing at a high level in the SEC and added an important piece in those efforts on Wednesday when they inked 2013 Carthage (Texas) defensive tackle Isaiah Golden.

A US Army All-American, the 6-2, 330-pounder is a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the no. 102 player nationally in the 247Sports composite ranking, the no. 8 defensive tackle in the country, and the 12th-best player in the state of Texas. He held offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and TCU before committing early in the process -- otherwise his offer sheet would have been much more impressive.

A transfer from Elysian Fields to Carthage, Golden played numerous positions before making the move, including running back, a rare sight that can often be one of the joys of watching small-school Texas high school football. Blessed with remarkable quickness for his size, Golden will have to be careful with his weight in college, as he’s carrying at least 20-25 pounds of bad weight around his midsection that is limiting that first-step quickness that made him so highly-considered early in the process.

Recruitment timeline: Golden shut down his recruitment in February of 2012 in favor of the Aggies and remained firm throughout the process.
