Troy Williams signs with Washington: Huskies land versatile quarterback

The Washington Huskies signed Troy Williams as their next potential quarterback of the future in the system of Steve Sarkisian.

Otto Greule Jr

The Washington Huskies have plenty of impressive recruits in the 2013 class, but none are more important than pro-style quarterback Troy Williams. The Harbor City, Calif., prospect pledged to the Huskies back in June and figures to be another long-term option at quarterback for UW.

Williams doesn't possess incredible measurements. In fact he's rather average in height and still pretty diminutive in stature. He'll have to grow into his body to be fully prepared for regular punishment. But Williams makes up for those physical issues with excellent athleticism, as he's able to both run and pass and produce effectively. Williams will join a crowded Husky rotation that includes Cyler Miles and Jeff Lindquist as they all try and challenge Keith Price for the starting spot.

However, what really makes Williams impressive is his technique and his overall knowledge. He operates out of the shotgun (which has to please Steve Sarkisian, who loves running his offense out of shotgun). He does a good job of releasing the ball quickly and has one of the more efficient deliveries of anyone in this class. Williams is versatile, which should make him quite valuable once he fully develops physically.

Ratings: Williams is a consensus four-star quarterback.

Vitals: Williams stands at 6’1 and weighs 190 pounds.

Other offers: Williams had offers from five Pac-12 schools, including Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA and Washington State, as well as Ole Miss and a host of mid-majors like Bowling Green, Hawaii, Nevada and SMU.

Recruitment: Williams didn’t need much time to convince himself the Huskies were the team for him. Williams took two unofficial visits at the end of April and the end of May. He committed to Washington near the beginning of June.
